BW Men’s Soccer Team Beats Wilmington

BEREA, OHIO --- Three separate players scored goals and senior goalie Tyler Beaton (Bemus Point, N.Y./ Maple Grove) had his third shutout this season as the Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team beat Wilmington College, 3-0,  in an Ohio Athletic Conference match on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium.  This was the nightcap of a women's and men's doubleheader.

The Yellow Jackets (6-7-3, 4-1 OAC) opened the scoring in the 14th minute when senior forward Andrew Preis (Mentor) scored his second goal this season and the third of his career after he received a nice pass from former high school teammate and current BW junior midfielder Mike Womack (Mentor).  Preis beat the Wilmington goalie to the ball and slid it by him and into the lower left corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.

BW extended its lead to 2-0 in the 26th minute when senior defender Ashkon Bahrami (Newark) scored his third goal of the season with an assist from sophomore forward Zach Smith (Parma/Normandy). Bahrami received a header from Smith and volleyed the ball into the upper right corner of the net. Smith's header assist was the third in Smith's career.

The Yellow Jackets increased their lead to 3-0 in the 52nd minute when junior forward Cody Smith (Brunswick) received a loose ball in the Quaker end of the field and one-touched it home for his second goal this season and the fourth of his career.

In goal for BW, Beaton faced 15 shots,  did not allowed a goal and made three saves as his record improved to 6-6-2 this season with three shutouts.

The Quakers (5-10-1, 2-3 OAC) outshot the Yellow Jackets by a 15-14 count, but BW won the cornerkick battle, 5-4.

The BW men are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 23 when they travel to University Heights, Ohio to play OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on Wasmer Field in Don Shula Stadium at 7 pm.  The next home match is on Tuesday, Oct. 29 when the Yellow Jackets host the University of Mount Union in Finnie Stadium at 7 pm.
