BW Men’s Soccer Beats Otterbein in OAC Opener

BEREA, Ohio --  The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team defeated Otterbein University, 3-0,  in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for each team on the Tressel Field inside The George Finnie Stadium.

With its win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 3-6-3 overall and 1-0 in the OAC. With its loss, the Cardinals drop to 5-5 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.

BW opened the scoring in the 11th-minute when junior midfielder Ben Deighton (Richfield/Revere) scored on a penalty kick to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead. Deighton scored his first goal of the season.

BW took a 2-0 lead at the 52:19 mark when Deighton scored his second goal of the game and his second goal of the season. The assist came from junior midfielder Michael Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) making this his first of the game and second on the season.

The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 3-0 at the 55:24 mark when Brennan scored his third goal of the season via an assist from junior defender Bill Gamble (Brunswick). The assist was Gamble's second on the season. 

In goal for BW, senior Tyler Beaton (Bemus Point, N.Y./Maple Grove) faced seven shots, including two shots-on-goal, allowed zero goals and made 2 saves as he improved to 3-5-2 overall.

The Yellow Jackets outshot the Otterbein by a 18-7 count and also had an 17-5 advantage in corner kicks.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, October 9 when they travel to New Concord, Ohio to play OAC rival Muskingum University at 7 p.m.
