Men's Soccer Blanks Marietta, Earns Fifth Seed in OAC Tournament

BEREA, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team Marietta College, 2-0, in an Ohio Athletic Conference match on Seniors' & Parents' Day on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, the Yellow Jackets (7-10-3, 5-4 OAC opened the scoring in the 48th minute when junior forward Cody Smith (Brunswick) scored his third goal of the season on a double assist from sophomore forward Zach Smith (Parma/Normandy) and junior midfielder Michael Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit).

Just over two minutes later, BW doubled its lead to 2-0 in the 51st minute when junior defender Trey Arney (Coshocton) scored his first goal of the season and his fourth of his career off the  corner from freshman midfielder Patrick O'Malley (Sheridan, Ind./Westfield).

In goal for BW, senior Tyler Beaton (Bemus Point, N.Y./ Maple Grove) faced nine shots, allowed zero goal and made four saves as he record improved to 7-7-2 overall with four shutouts.

The Yellow Jackets outshot Marietta (3-14-1) by a 19-9 count and had a 9-6 advantage in corner kicks.

BW will enter next week's OAC Tournament as the fifth seed and will travel to Bexley on Monday, November 4 to face the fourth-seed Capital University Crusaders at 2 p.m.  The winner will advance to play the semifinals and play at top-seeded Ohio Northern University on Wednesday, November 6.
