Seven BW Men's Soccer Student-Athletes Earn Academic-All OAC

BEREA, OHIO --  Seven Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer student-athletes have been named to the 2013 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.  To qualify, each student-athlete had to have a minimum 3.495 grade point average or higher and achieve varsity status on his or her team.  BW had the second most selections of any OAC institution.

The seven men's soccer student-athletes are Trey Arney(Coshocton), Ashkon Bahrami (Newark), Michael Brennan(Akron/Walsh Jesuit), Adam Lyons (North Olmsted/Ohio Connections Academy), Cody Smith (Brunswick), Judson Sprandel (Akron/Green) and Mike Womack (Mentor)

Sprandel is a three-time Academic All-OAC selection.  Arney, Brennan, Lyons, Smith and Womack earn Academic All-OAC accolades for the second time.

Arney is a junior defender who carries a 3.56 grade average in biology. He was a key member of a BW defense that allowed just 1.33 goals per game and had four shutouts this fall. This season, Arney took nine shots, including six on-goal, scored once and had two points. During his career, he has helped the Yellow Jackets compile a 42-29-11 record with 20 shutouts. Individually, Arney has taken 29 shots and scored four goals for eight points. The 2011 "Rookie of the Year" also is a Jacket Scholar.

Bahrami is a senior midfielder who carries a 3.5 grade average in biology and neuroscience. He played in 19 games this season, took 14 shots, including seven on-goal, scored three goals, including a game-winner, and had six points. During his career, he appeared in 49 games, took 20 shots, including eight on-goal, scored three goals and had six points. The Dean's List student is the President of the Pre-Med Society and serves as a Student Ambassador.

Brennan is a junior forward who carries a 3.91 grade average in chemistry. He led the Yellow Jackets in scoring this season with six goals and three assists for 15 points. The two-time Academic All-OAC choice has played in 66 career games, taken 97 shots, scored 16 goals and added seven assists for 39 points. The Jacket Scholar is a member of a number of academic honoraries.

Lyons is a junior defender who carries a 3.85 grade average in philosophy. He played in one varsity game this season and did not take a shot. The two-time Academic All-OAC selection is a Jacket Scholar.

Smith is a junior forward who carries a 3.75 grade average in broadcasting and mass communication. He played in 16 games, took 18 shots, including 10 on-goal, scored three goals, including one game-winner, and had six points. The two-time Academic All-OAC player appeared in 54 games, taken 56 shots, including 27 on-goal, scored five goals and added four assists for 14 points. Smith also is a Dean's List student and Jacket Scholar.

Sprandel is a senior defender who carries a 3.93 grade average in biology. The three-time Academic All-OAC Choice played in all 21 contests, took 20 shots, including five on-goal, and had one assist. He joined Arney and Bahrami as a key member of the defense. During his career, Sprandel has appeared in 68 games, took 55 shots, including 19 on-goal and had two assists. He also earned CAPITAL ONE first-team Academic All-District 7 honors in both 2011 and 2012 and was Academic All-Ohio in 2012. The Dean's List student and Jacket Scholar is a member of numerous academic honoraries.

Womack is a junior defender who carries a 3.68 grade average in accounting. The two-time Academic All-OAC selection played in 20 games, took nine shots, including five on-goal, and had one assist. During his career, he appeared in 48 games, took 18 shots, including 11 on-goal, scored two goals and added three assists for seven points. Womack also is a Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and member of the Chi Sigma Alpha Honor Society.
