Jackets Blank Host Grove City (Pa.), 3-0

GROVE CITY, PENNSYLVANIA– Baldwin-Wallace College junior goalie Ryan Hulings (Centerville) recorded his seventh career shutout as the Yellow Jacket men's soccer team blanked host Grove City College of Pennsylvania, 3-0, today (Saturday, September 17, 2011) in Grove City. The victory was the sixth straight for the Yellow Jackets who are ranked seventh in the Great Lakes Region of Division III.

Hulings faced 12 GCC shots and made four saves en route to his first shutout this season and the seventh of his career. He also lowered his goals-against-average this season to 1.22 per contest.  For his career, Hulings has played in 35 contests, has a 15-8-4 career mark and now owns a 1.13 GAA.

With its win, B-W is now 6-1 overall and next plays on Wednesday, Sept. 21 when it hosts No. 24-nationally-ranked Allegheny (Pa.) College on Tressel Field in The George Finnie Stadium. Allegheny also is ranked third in the Great Lakes.  With its loss, Grove City, which was receiving votes in the regional poll, falls to 3-3 overall.

B-W opened the scoring at the 12:23 mark of the first half when it received an own goal for a 1-0 lead.  The GCC defender was attempting to clear the ball and deflected a cross into his own goal

The lead grew to 2-0 at the 37:25 mark of the first period when junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference defender Tommy Kramer (Columbus/ Worthington KIlbourne) scored.  The score remained 2-0 at the intermission.

B-W added "icing to the win" and increased its advantage to 3-0 at the 50:29 mark when senior midfielder Pete Childerson (Alliance) scored an unassisted goal.

On things that the GRove City defense did do was stop this week's OAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week, Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina/ Senior) from scoring. On Wednesday, Vandendriessche tied Jeff Schenk (1983-86) for the all-time Yellow Jacket goals scored with 36. His 77 career points scored (36 goals and 25 assists) is three points shy of Tyler Leister (2007-10) for third on the all-time scoring.  Schenk also holds that mark with 92 and Pete Angelokostopoulos (1997-2000) is second with 86.

Following Wednesday's game versus Allegheny, B-W will travel to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania on Saturday,  September 24 when it plays Westminster College in the first match of a men's and women's doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.. The women kickoff at 3:00 p.m.

On Saturday, October 22, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO).  This is the fourth straight year that B-W has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a perfect 6-0 record on the line.
