Three Student-Athletes Named Academic All-District VII

BEREA, OHIO – Thrre Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer student-athletes, senior defender Sean Maloney (North Versailles, Pa./ East Allegheny), junior midfielder Pat Brennan (Akron/ Walsh Jesuit) and sophomore defender Judson Sprandel (Akron/ Green), have been named to the 2011 CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District VII first team and now qualify for the national CAPITAL ONE Academic All-America ballot.

The Yellow Jacket trio were part of this season's record-setting team that finished 16-5 overall and was ranked as high as 10th nationally in the NCSAA (National Collegiate Soccer Coaches of America) Division III poll.  Individually, Brennan is a two-time honoree while Maloney and Sprandel are being named to the team for the first time.

Brennan, who carries a 3.7 grade point average in B-W's 3:2 Master's of Business Administration in Accounting Program, is one of the best midfielders in NCAA Division III soccer.  The two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and 2010 Academic All-OAC and CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District selection has helped B-W to win 41 matches in his first three seasons. Individually, he has appeared in 60 matches, taken 126 shots, including 59 on-goal, scored 19 goals and added 16 assists for 54 career points. He was B-W's "Rookie of the Year" in 2009 and has twice earned OAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week accolades.  Brennan is a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Alpha Sigma honoraries and Dean's List.

Maloney, a senior finance major, ended a strong four-year career and helped B-W to compile a 52-21-6 record. Individually, the three-year letterman appeared in 36 career matches, took six shots and was credited with two assists. During his four seasons on the varsity, B-W recorded 30 shutouts, including six this season.  He also is a solid student who carries a 3.64 grade point average (prior to his senior season). Maloney is a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Alpha Sigma honoraries and Dean's List. 

Sprandel carries an outstanding 3.97 grade point average in biology and pre-med. He was one of the top defenders for the Yellow Jackets this fall.  He has appeared in 36 career matches, taken 28 shots, including 12 on-goal, with one assist. In his first two seasons in the Brown & Gold, Sprandel has helped B-W to win 28 matches and record 12 shutouts.  Academically, he is a member of the Alpha Lambda Honor Society and Dean's List and a member of the B-W Bio League and re-Med Club.

Voting for the 2011 CAPITAL ONE Academic All-America team begins on Tuesday, November 8.
