Men Lose to Wilmington, 2-1, in Berea

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team falls to Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College, 2-1, tonight (Saturday, October 22, 2011) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match on the Tressel Field in The George Finnie Stadium.  

 The match was taped by SportsTime Ohio and will be shown on regional cable TV. This also was the nightcap of a women's and men's STO doubleheader. The men's match will be shown on STO tonight at 10:00 p.m., tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 23 at 7:00 a.m. and again at 12:00 noon. The women's match was already aired tonight at 8:00 p.m. and will be shown again tomorrow at 5:00 a.m. and on Monday at 7:00 a.m.  

With its loss, the Yellow Jackets are now  14-3 overall and 5-2 in the OAC and stands in third place in the OAC Standings with two regular season matches remaining (see more below). With its win, Wilmington improves to 10-5-1 overall and 4-3 in the OAC and is in fourth place with two regular season matches left.

 In the first half of play, the Yellow Jackets missed on a couple of opportunities to take the early advantage and left the match scoreless.

 In the second half of play, at the 53:11 mark, junior midfielder Kirk Graf (Ashland) scored off a cross from senior forward Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina). Graf's goal is his eighth goal of the season. With the assist, Vandendriessche now has 96 points in his career and 31 points on the season. 

 The Quakers answered back right away at the 57:24 mark, when forward Henrik Hornnaess scored off a pass from midfielder Taylor Estes to tie the game at, 1-1.

At the 85:53 mark, Wilmington took the lead, 2-0, with an unassisted goal by forward Max Eurenius, which proved to be the winning goal of the match.  

In net for B-W, junior soccer goalie and tennis player Tyler Beaton (Bemus Point, N.Y./ Maple Grove) played all 90 minutes and faced 16 shots, allowed two goals, and made five saves and his record is now 1-1 this season. For Quakers, sophomore goalie Antonio Trujillo faced 16 shots, allowed one goals, made one save and improved his record to 1-0 this season.

B-W and Wilmington had 16 shots apiece, and B-W outcornered the Quakers, 9-4.

It was Seniors' Day at the College and the Yellow Jackets acknowledged the contributions of seniors, Pete Childerson (Alliance/ Senior), Noah Eubanks (West Bloomfield, Mich./ West Bloomfield), Sean Maloney (North Versailles, Pa./ East Allegheny), Andy Thompson (Huron) and Vandendriessche prior to the match.

Next week is the final week of the OAC regular season. The Yellow Jackets play matches at OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 4:00 p.m. and at Muskingum University on Oct. 29 at 1:00 p.m. The OAC Tournament for men begins on Tuesday, November 1 for women and Monday, Oct. 31 for men.
