No. 16 Men’s Soccer Team Beats Westminster (Pa.)

BEREA, OHIO – Junior forward Pat Brennan (Akron/ Walsh Jesuit) scored two goals and assisted on another as the 16th-ranked (NSCAA Division III Coaches poll) Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team defeated Westminster College, 3-1, today (Saturday, September 24, 2011) in a non-conference match in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania.

 In addition to Brennan for B-W, senior forward Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina) scored his team-leading eighth goal and assisted on Brennan's second goal. The goal was his school-record 38th of his career and now gives him 85 career points (38 goals and 9 assists) for 85 points to leave him one point shy of Pete Angelokostopoulos (1997-2000) for second place and seven points shy of Jeff Schenk (1983-86) for first on the all-time scoring list.

 With its victory, B-W, also ranked second in the Great Lakes Region of Division III, won its eighth straight match to improve to 8-1 this season.   The loss drops Westminster to 2-6 overall.

 Westminster opened the scoring at the 8:34 mark when senior defenfer Jake Huey scored unassisted for a 1-0 lead. B-W tied the game at 1-1 at the 30:32 mark when Vandendriessche scored via an assist from Brennan. The game remained tied 1-1 at the intermission.

 The Yellow Jackets gained a 2-1 advantage at the 51:15 mark when Brennan scored his first goal via an assist from junior forward Kirk Graf (Ashland). Brennan scored the final goal of the match at 70:26 with an assist from Vandendriessche.

B-W won the battle of shots, 11-10, and captured the battle of corner kicks, 5-3.

 B-W will return to the friendly confines of the Tressel Field pitch at the George Finnie Stadium on Tuesday, September 27 when it plays host to the College of Mount St. Joseph in the second game of a men's and women's soccer doubleheader at 7:00 p.m.

 On Saturday, October 22, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO).  This is the fourth straight year that B-W has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a perfect 6-0 record on the line.
