Men’s Soccer Team Defeats Centre (Ky.)

DANVILLE, KENTUCKY – The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team won its fourth straight match of the season defeating Centre (Ky.) College, 2-1 in double overtime, tonight (September 10, 2011) and won the Centre College Tournament Title.

With the win, improved to 4-1 on the season and the loss drops Centre to 2-2 overall.

The Colonels scored the lone goal of the first half when Robbie Tarver  tallied his first career goal off the cross from Jack Goblirsch just 8:59 into the game.

 In the second half, B-W's tied the game at 1-1 when senior midfielder Sean Maloney (North Versailles, Pa./ East Allegheny) found the back of the net for his first goal of the season off the assist from senior midfielder Andrew Thompson (Huron) at the 60 minute mark.  The two teams remained deadlocked for the remainder of regulation plus the first overtime period.

 Just five minutes into the second overtime period (110:00),  senior three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina) scored the game winning unassisted goal.

 With the goal, Vandendriessche moves into second place on the all-time goals scored list with 34 and fourth on the all-time scoring list with 73 career points.  He is just two goals shy of tying Jeff Schenk (1983-86) for the all-time Yellow Jacket goals scored with 36 and needs seven points to tie Tyler Leister (2007-10) for third on the all-time scoring list with 80. 

 B-W will next play on Wednesday, September 14 when it will host Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University on the Tressel Field pitch at the George Finnie Stadium at 7:00 p.m. 

 On Saturday, October 22, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO).  This is the fourth straight year that B-W has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a perfect 6-0 record on the line.
