No. 10 Men’s Soccer Team Defeats Otterbein

BEREA, OHIO -- The 10th-ranked (NSCAA Division III Coaches national poll) and 24th -ranked (D3soccer.com poll) Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team defeated Otterbein University, 2-1, tonight (Saturday, October 8, 2011) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium. 

 The victory for the Yellow Jackets, who are also ranked second in the Great Lakes Region of Division III, was their school record 12th straight and improved the records to 12-1 overall and 3-0 in the OAC. The loss drops the Cardinals to 3-6-2 overall and 1-2 in the OAC.

B-W trailed for only the second time this season in the first half when Otterbein opened scoring at the 14:22 mark on a JP Lococo goal from Kurt Gallant. Junior midfielder Kirk Graf (Ashland) answered the Cardinal goal just 3:03 later (1-1), as he scored his seventh goal of the season by following up a shot from senior midfielder Andrew Thompson (Huron) that hit the post.  

In the second half, took the lead (2-1) when senior forward Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina) scored his 11th goal of the season off the assist from Graf at the 52:08 mark. With his goal, Vandendriessche now has 40 goals and nine assists for 89 career points. It leaves him three points shy of tying Jeff Schenk's (1983-86) school-record of 92 career points and two goals shy of tying the season goal scoring record (13).

In net, Ryan Hulings (Centerville) had four saves and recorded his 11th victory this season. 

B-W outshot Otterbein, 19-9 but lost the corner battle, 5-4.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, October 11 when they travel to Tiffin to play Heidelberg University in an OAC match at 7:00 p.m.  The next home match is on Wednesday, October 19 when B-W hosts the University of Mount Union in an OAC match on the Finnie Stadium turf at 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday, October 22, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO). This is the fourth straight year that B-W has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a perfect 6-0 record on the line.
