No. 10 Men’s Soccer Team Defeats Heidelberg

TIFFIN, OHIO -- The 10th-ranked (NSCAA Division III Coaches national poll) and 18th-ranked (D3soccer.com poll) Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team defeated Heidelberg University, 1-0, tonight (Tuesday, October 11, 2011) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match at Mayer Field.

The victory for the Yellow Jackets, who are also ranked second in the Great Lakes Region of Division III, was their school record 13th straight and improved the records to 13-1 overall and 4-0 in the OAC. The loss drops the Student Princes to 2-7-4 overall and 0-3-1 in the OAC.

B-W got the lone goal of the game off of a header by senior three-time All-OAC forward Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina) at the 43:23 mark of the first half. The assist came from junior Ricky Barth (Strongsville).  

With the goal, Vandendriessche moves into first place on the all-time scoring list with 93 career points surpassing Jeff Schenk (1983-86) with 92 points.   He now has 42 goals and nine assists to rank first in goals scored and points.  Vandendriessche needs one goal to tie the school record for goals in a season with 13, which he currently holds with two other players 

In net, Ryan Hulings (Centerville) had one save and recorded his 12 victory this season and fourth shutout. 

B-W outshot Heidelberg, 13-6 but lost the corner battle, 5-4.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action this coming Saturday, October 15 when they will travel to Ada to take on the 16th-ranked (D3soccer.com poll) Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University in the first game of a men's and women's soccer doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.  The next home match is on Wednesday, October 19 when B-W hosts the University of Mount Union on the Finnie Stadium turf at 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday, October 22, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO). This is the fourth straight year that B-W has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a perfect 6-0 record on the line.
