Men's Basketball Stung by Penn State Behrend in Overtime After Late Comeback

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team fell to Penn State Behrend in a non-conference matchup by a score of 80-69 in overtime in Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW Leaders (1-3)

  • Freshman guard Titus Baskerville IV (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) scored a career-high 15 points including three three-pointers and also added a game-high five assists
  • Sophomore guard Ray Ellington (Westlake) recorded his first career double-double scoring 20 points and grabbing 12 rebounds
  • Senior guard Luke Driscoll (Carmel, Calif./Stevenson School) was the fourth Yellow Jacket to reach double figures with 10 points
  • Freshman forward AJ Pestello (Cuyahoga Falls/Stow-Munroe Falls) also recorded a double-double in only his fourth collegiate game as he finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds

Penn State Behrend Leaders (4-0)

  • Senior guard Tommy DiRienzo led the Lions with 32 points and 11 rebounds
  • Sophomore guard Matthew McDonough scored 18 points
  • Sophomore guard Michael Sopko added 11 points

First Half (BW 39-24)

  • Ellington drilled three three-pointers and scored 13 of his 20 on the night
  • Pestello added 11 points 
  • The Yellow Jackets held Penn State Behrend to a shooting percentage of only 31% from the field
  • BW grabbed 22 boards to the Lions' 12
  • BW took their biggest lead of the game with 18 points seconds before the half

Second Half (Tied 69-69)

  • Penn State Behrend went on an 18-10 run to start the half
  • Baskerville was the team's leading scorer with eight points shooting 2-2 from three
  • The Lions eventually tied things at 66 with one minute left in regulation after trailing since the first minute of play
  • Driscoll sank a clutch layup to put the Yellow Jackets up by two
  • DiRienzo buried a three to give the Lions the lead with 38 seconds left in regulation
  • Ellington drew a foul allowing him to tie the game with a free throw
  • Penn State Behrend's attempt at a gamewinner would not go giving the Yellow Jackets a chance to win the game
  • A BW turnover led to a Lions final attempt which was no good forcing overtime

Overtime (PSB 80-69)

  • DiRienzo gave Penn State Behrend the lead with a three
  • The Lions caused five turnovers leading to eight more unanswered points
