Men's Basketball Takes Non-Conference Game Against La Roche (Pa.)

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team defeated La Roche University in a non-conference matchup by a score of 83-78 on Scott Lang Court inside the Kerr Fitness & Sports Center.

BW Leaders (3-5)

  • Sophomore guard Brayden Hamilton (Brunswick) finished with 19 points
  • Sophomore guard Ray Ellington (Westlake) had a game-high 24 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season
  • Freshman guard Nick Timberlake (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) scored his first collegiate points and finished with nine total
  • Freshman guard Titus Baskerville IV (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) and sophomore forward AJ Pestello (Cuyahoga Falls/Stow-Munroe Falls) each recorded 12 points

La Roche Leaders (2-8)

  • Junior guard Joe Starzynski and senior guard Isaiah Thomas each had 19 points for the Redhawks
  • Sophomore forward Dawson Summers scored 12 points off the bench
  • Starzynski had a team-high nine rebounds

First Half (BW 49-45)

  • Ellington scored 17 points and five threes in the first nine minutes 
  • The Yellow Jackets took a 15 point lead with 10:13 left in the half
  • Starzynksi scored 13 of his 19
  • BW shot 43% from beyond the arch
  • La Roche scored 22 points in the paint and shot 48% from the field

Second Half (BW 83-78)

  • Pestello was the leading scorer in the second half scoring 10 of his 12 on the night
  • The Brown and Gold defense forced 15 turnovers and held La Roche to 2-12 from three
  • The Redhawks scored 11 straight to take their biggest lead of the night going up 69-64 with six minutes to play
  • Hamilton gave the Yellow Jackets the 74-73 lead with a three after a late comeback
  • Ellington scored five of BW's last nine to secure the 83-78 victory
