Men's Basketball's Late Rally Falls Short Against Otterbein

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team fell to Otterbein University in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup by a score of 75-67 after trailing by as much as 18 points in Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center. 

BW Leaders (3-6, 1-3 OAC)

  • Sophomore guard Ray Ellington (Westlake) recorded his third double-double of the season with 26 points and 10 rebounds
  • Freshman guard Titus Baskerville IV (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) tallied 17 points
  • Senior forward Rob Watson III (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) finished with five points, five rebounds, and two blocks
  • Sophomore guard Myles Reynolds (Cleveland/St. Edward) scored six points by shooting 2-3 from three

Otterbein Leaders (5-3, 1-2 OAC)

  • Senior guard Jack Clement led the Cardinals in scoring with 19 points along with five rebounds
  • Sophomore forward Troy Scowden added 14 points
  • Senior guard Cam Evans led the team with eight rebounds

First Half (Otterbein 42-26)

  • Ellington and Baskerville IV led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with seven points each
  • Clement led Otterbein in scoring with 14 points, shooting 50% from three
  • Ellington had a game-high six rebounds in the first half
  • BW led the turnover battle by forcing three Cardinals turnovers

Second Half (Otterbein 75-67)

  • Ellington scored 19 of his 26 in the second half
  • Junior forward Jarred Logan (Elyria Catholic) scored his first points of the season in his season debut
  • BW cut an 18-point deficit down to just one possession with 2:47 to play
  • Otterbein shot 40% from the field, while the Yellow Jackets shot for 37% from the field
  • The Yellow Jackets outscored the Cardinals on second chance opportunities with 13 points

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Thursday, December 21 as they travel to Lexington, Kentucky to face East Texas Baptist University in the first day of the Don Lane Classic hosted by Transylvania (Ky.) University in the Clive M. Beck Center at 4 p.m. On Friday, December 22 BW will either play in the Don Lane Classic consolation game at 1 p.m. or the Don Lane Classic championship game at 3 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
