BEREA, OHIO --  Baldwin-Wallace College junior baseball student-athlete and outfielder Brendan Toughey (East Amherst, N.Y./ St. Joseph's Collegiate) has been named as a second-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American. He was a key player who helped the Yellow Jackets set a school record with 27 victories and compiled a 27-13 overall record.

Toughey, who carries a 3.94 grade point average in B-W's 3:2 Master's of Accounting Program, was a first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7 selection and an Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference pick.

Toughey played in and started all 40 games, was second on the team in batting average (.377/ 57-for-151) and doubles (10). He also set a school single-season record for runs scored (53), led the team in base hits (57), walks drawn (21), stolen bases (23-for-23) and on-base average (.458). For his career, Toughey is hitting .326 (95-for-291) with 87 runs scored, 18 doubles, two triples, a homerun, 37 RBI and is a perfect 34-for-34 in stolen base attempts. For his efforts this season, he was named second-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference.

In addition, Toughey is a Dean's List student, member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Chi Sigma Alpha honor societies and a Jacket Scholar. At this spring's Student-Athlete Awards Luncheon, he received a "Leadership Award" for having the Highes Grade Point Average on the baseball team. He also is an officer for the B-W Accounting Association.

"Brendan is an outstanding student first and baseball player second," said second-year Head Coach Brian Harrison. "He definitely has his priorities in the right places. In addition, Brendan is a leader in the classroom, on the baseball field and on our campus. He is an excellent role model for our younger student-athletes to emulate.

"This season, Brendan played a significant role in our success of setting the school-record for wins in a season," said Harrison. "He has outstanding talent and desire.  Brendan is both a good hitter who has excellent speed, and he is an asset on defense. We look forward to having him back next spring."
