Two Baseball Players Named Academic All-OAC

BEREA, OHIO -- Four Baldwin-Wallace College student-athletes have been named to Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference baseball and softball teams. Headling the list is junior leftfielder Brendan Toughey (East Amherst, N.Y./ St. Joseph's Collegiate) who was a first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District VII selection and currently appears on the CAPITAL ONE Academic All-America ballot.

Student-athletes are nominated and selected by the Faculty Athletics Representatives of each school.  To qualify, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.25 grade point average, be a starter or key reserve who has appeared in more than half of his/ her teams games/ events.


Joining Toughey on the Academic All-OAC baseball squad is junior righthanded pitcher David Redovian (Fairlawn/ Copley).  Headlining the softball selection is graduated pitcher Sarah Baker (Mentor/ Lake Catholic), who set a Yellow Jacket school record for career victories and was this year's Outstanding Senior Female Athlete. She is joined by sophomore first baseman Kaity Mullen (Avon Lake).


Toughey, a member of B-W's 3:2 Master's of Accounting Program with an outstanding 3.94 grade point average, is one of the best outfielders in the Ohio Athletic Conference and Mideast Region of Division III. He helped to lead the Yellow Jackets to a school-record 27 victories and a 27-13 overall record. This season, Toughey played in and started all 40 games, was second on the team with a .377 batting average (57-for-151) and doubles (10), led the team in base hits (57), runs scored (53), walks drawn (21), stolen bases (23-for-23) and on-base average (.458). For his career, Toughey is hitting .326 (95-for-291) with 87 runs scored, 18 doubles, two triples, a homerun, 37 RBI and is a perfect 34-for-34 in stolen base attempts. He also was named second-team All-OAC and third-team d3baseball.com All-Mideast Region. Academically, Toughey is a Dean's List student who is a member of the Alpha Lambda, and Chi Sigma Alpha honor societies and a Jacket Scholar. He also is the Vice Chair of the B-W Accounting Association. He received a Laedership Award at the 2012 Student-Athlete Awards Luncheon for having the "Highest Grade Point Average" on the baseball team.


Redovian, who carries a 3.63 grade point average in the Master's of Accounting Program, was a key member of the Yellow Jacket starting rotation. He compiled a 5-3 record with a 5.57 earned run average and 45 strikeouts in 51 and two-third innings pitched. He had two complete games and combined for one shutout. For his career, Redovian is 7-10 with a 5.70 ERA and 92 whiffs in 109 innings pitched. He has five complete games, one individual shutout and two total shutouts.  In the classroom, he is a Dean's List student and Jacket Scholar and a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Sigma Alpha honor societies.
