With the split, B-W is now 17-4 overall and 2-2 in the OAC while John Carroll is now 9-10 overall and 2-2 in the OAC.
In game one, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when junior leftfielder Brendan Toughey (East Amherst, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) led off the game with a single to center field. Toughey stole second and would score on the RBI single by freshman first baseman Kyle Chontos (Pickerington/North).
B-W added to its lead, 3-0, in the top of the third inning as it scored two runs on two hits. Senior shortstop Anthony Longhitano (Cuyahoga Falls) led off the inning with a base knock through the left side and then stole second. Longhitano would score on the two-run homerun to right field by Chontos. The Blue Steaks cut into the lead, 3-2, in the bottom half of the inning as they scored two runs on three hits.
The Yellow Jackets would add another run on three hits in the top of the fifth inning to push their lead to 4-2. Longhitano had a one-out single to center field advanced to second on the single to right center by Chontos. Junior second baseman Jay Yost (Bascom/Hopewell-Loudon) would single to right field to score Longhitano and Chontos would advance to second.
B-W would tack on another run on two hits in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 5-2. Junior centerfielder Nolan Neuschaefer (Elyria) led off the inning with a single through the right side and then stole second base. Senior catcher Ryan Nordquist (Alliance) walked. Neuschaefer advanced to third a wild pitch on ball four to Nordquist and would score on the sacrifice fly by Toughey.
In game two, B-W would take an early lead 1-0 when Toughey led off the game with a walk and then would advance to second on a stolen base. Toughey advanced to third on the ground out by Longhitano and Chontos would walk. Freshman third baseman Eric Murphy ( Brook Park/Midpark) grounded out to second but Toughey would score on the play. John Carroll would take the lead in the bottom half of the inning as it would score four runs on four hits.
The Yellow Jackets cut into the lead, 4-2, as they would score one run on two hits in the top of the second inning. Ferster led off the inning with an infield base hit that he was initially called out but after an appeal by Head Coach Brian Harrison he was called safe. Ferster then stole second base and would score on the RBI base hit by Nordquist.
The Yellow Jackets scored one run on two hits in the top of the eighth inning to close out the scoring at 11-7. Neuschaefer had a one-out triple to right center and would score on the RBI single to right center by Nordquist.
B-W is back in action tomorrow (Wednesday, April 4) when they host Case Western Reserve University in a non-conference nine inning game at Heritage Field. First pitch for the home opener is slated for 4:00 p.m. The Yellow Jackets will close out the week with an n OAC doubleheader with the University of Mount Union at Heritage Field on Friday, April 6 at 1:00 p.m.
