Baseball Team Defeats Walsh, 15-14, in Non-Conference Play

CANTON, OHIO --- The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team defeats host and NCAA Division II Walsh University, 15-14, in a non-conference game today (Monday, March 26, 2012) in North Canton. The Yellow Jackets have now won 10 of its last 11 games.

With the victory, B-W improves to 14-2 overall. Walsh falls to 11-11.


The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a nine-run lead through the first four and a half innings. The Cavaliers then answered with eight of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the B-W lead to one run. In the top of the fifth inning, B-W would score four runs on four hits to extend their lead to five runs (13-8). The Yellow Jackets would score two more runs in the top of the seventh inning to make the score 15-8. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Walsh answered back with six runs on six hits to close within one run to B-W, but both teams would end the game scoreless for the Yellow Jacket win.


At the plate, Baldwin-Wallace was led by junior outfielder
Brendan Toughey (East Amherst, N.Y. /St. Joseph's Collegiate Inst.), freshman outfielder Alex Green (Pickerington/North), and junior centerfielder Nolan Neuschaefer (Elyria). Toughey went 5-for-6 with two runs scored and two runs-batted-in. Green would go 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and three RBI. Neuschaefer went 1-for-4 at the plate with one run scored, a walk, and three runs-batted-in.

On the mound, junior
Dave Redovian (Fairlawn/Copley) would pitch three and one third innings allowing six runs (all earned) on eight hits and striking out two Cavalier batters. Junior right-hander Pat Havens (Twinsburg) would come in to relieve Redovian in the fourth inning. Havens pitched three and one third innings giving up eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits. Sophomore Cory Waite (Willoughby/South) pitched two and one third innings allowing no runs on two hits while striking out two batters. Havens would pick up his fifth win of the year (5-0) while Waite earned his first save of the season.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, March 28 when they travel to Wooster, Ohio to play perennial NCAA Division III national powerhouse The College of Wooster in a single game at 4:00 p.m. B-W then opens its Ohio Athletic Conference schedule next Saturday, March 31 with a twinbill at Muskingum University at 1:00 p.m.
