BW Men’s Tennis Team Beats PSU-Behrend

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, OHIO – The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated visiting Penn State Behrend (Pa.) University, 8-1, today (Saturday, February 9, 2013) at the North Ridge Racquet Club.  It was BW's second match of the day.

With its win, BW improves to 4-0 in dual matches.

BW was lead by senior No.1 player Joe Horvath (North Royalton) who won the first singles match against Taimi Ando, 6-1, 6-2.  In addition to Horvath, sophomore Kyle Patterson (Wooster/Triway) in the second singles match against Chris Galvin, 6-2, 6-2.  In the third singles match freshman Peter Harris (Akron/Revere) won against Lerdlarp Jaturapol , 6-0, 6-1.  In fourth single, Alexander Kerney (North Olmstead) won against Buiter 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Doug Ganim (Olentangy/Orange) won the fifth singles match against Rapheal Bretz, 6-1, 6-0, and in the sixth singles match junior Brad Minrovic (Akron/Ellet) won against Carson Emili, 6-1, (10-3), 4-6, 1-0.    

In doubles action, freshmen Harris and Ganim defeated Ando and Galvin 8-5.  In addition, seniors Horvath and Kerney won in their doubles match against Bretz and Guillermo Guillen, 8-3.

The Yellow Jacket men are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 23 when they host Fransiscan University at 2:30 p.m. and NCAA Division II Lake Erie College at 7:00 p.m. at the North Ridge site. The Jackets' end their 2013 winter indoor schedule on Saturday, March 2 when they travel to Defiance, Ohio to play St. Francis (Ind.) University at Defiance College at 10:00 a.m. and then play host Defiance at 2:00 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets then travel to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina from March 10-15 on its annual Spring Break Trip where they will play six matches.

A year ago, the BW men posted a set a school-record with 29 victories, posted a 29-1 record, won both the OAC regular season title (9-0 record) and the OAC Tournament title and advanced to its first-ever NCAA Division III National Tournament where they won its first-ever NCAA tourney match.
