BW Men’s Tennis Team Beats Nazareth (NY)

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated Nazareth (N.Y.) College, 8-1, today (Sunday, March 10, 2013) on the first day of its annual Spring Break Trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina. The win also kept BW unbeaten prior to facing Gettysburg (Pa.) College later today in its second spring trip match.

With its victory, BW improves to 9-0 overall and has now won 37 of its last 38 dual matches dating back to last season when it won a school-record 28 matches, finished 28-1 overall, won the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles and advanced to the second round of the 2012 NCAA Division III National Tournament.  With its loss, Nazareth falls to 0-4 this season.

BW gained a 3-0 lead after doubles play and closed out the match by winning five of six singles matches.

In doubles, the No. 1 duo of freshmen Peter Harris (Akron/ Revere) and Doug Ganim (Olentangy/ Orange) defeated Ryan McCormick and Tyler Williams, 8-3.  At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) and junior Brad Minrovic (Akron/ Ellet) beat Jeremy Marcus and Erik Manske, 8-5.  The No. 3 tandem of seniors Joe Horvath (North Royalton) and Alexander Kearney (North Olmsted) took an 8-1 decision against Bret Beaver and Scott Trobert.

In singles play, Patterson beat Mancus, 6-2 and 6-1, at No. 2; at No. 3, Harris beat defeated Beaver, 6-2 and 6-2; at No. 4, Kearney beat Manske, 6-3 and 6-2; at No. 5, Ganim defeated Williams, 6-3 and 6-0; at No. 6, Minrovic beat Matt Jennings, 6-0 and 6-1.

Following today's second match against Gettysburg, BW is back in action tomorrow versus Edgewood (Wisc.) University at 8:00 a.m. The first northern match is on March 23 at Ohio Wesleyan University.
