BW's Joe Horvath Ties for Second on All-Time Wins List

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference senior Joe Horvath (North Royalton) moved into a tie for second place all-time with his 87th career win and the defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated Fairleigh Dickinson (N.J.) University College of Florham, 9-0, today (Wednesday, March 13, 2013) on the fourth and final day of play on its annual Spring Break Trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina.  The Yellow Jackets had a perfect 6-0 mark on their trip, including three sweeps in their last four matches.

With its victory, BW improves to 14-0 overall and has won 42 of its last 43 dual matches dating back to last season.  With its loss, FDU falls to 1-5 overall.

Horvath defeated sophomore Mitch Gettis, 6-0 and 6-2, at No. 1 singles, and improved to 14-3 for the season and 87-11 for his career, tying him with former Yellow Jacket Alex Trzeciak '12 for second place on BW's all-time singles wins list.

BW led, 3-0, after doubles play and won all six singles matches.

In doubles, the No. 1 duo of freshmen Peter Harris (Akron/ Richfield Revere) and Doug Ganim (Olentangy/ Orange) defeated juniors Ryan Kearns and A.J. Warden, 8-1, and improved their season record to 16-4 overall.  The No. 2 tandem of sophomore Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) and Academic All-OAC junior Brad Minrovic (Akron/ Ellet) defeated Gettis and junior Nasar Mannan, 8-1, and improved their season record to 11-3 overall.  At No. 3 doubles, Horvath and junior Zach Elbin (Findlay) beat freshmen Jonsin Aybalik and Nikola Radovic, 8-1, in their first match this season as a duo.

At No. 2 singles, Patterson defeated Mannan, 6-0 and 6-0, and improved to 17-3 overall.  No. 3 Harris beat Kearns, 6-0 and 6-1, improving 16-3.  No. 4 Ganim defeated Warden, 6-1 and 6-2, climbing to 15-3 overall. At No. 5, Minrovic beat Radovic, 6-2 and 6-1, upping his record to 15-4.  At No. 6, junior Dan Rowsey (Ashland/ Senior) defeated sophomore Ryan Hurdes, 7-5 and 6-2, and improved to 7-5.

The Yellow Jackets will return to Ohio to play their first northern match at Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday, March 23 at 12:00 noon. The first home and OAC match is on Tuesday, March 26 against Muskingum University at 4:00 p.m.

A year ago, BW won a school-record 29 matches, finished 29-1 overall, won the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles and advanced to the second round of the 2012 NCAA Division III National Tournament.
