BW Men’s Tennis Beats Edgewood (Wis.) to Improve to 11-0

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated Edgewood (Wis.) College, 9-0, today (Monday, March 11, 2013) on the second day of its annual Spring Break Trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina. 

With its victory, BW improves to 11-0 overall, is 3-0 on its spring break trip prior to playing NCAA Division II Philadelphia (Pa.) University this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. and has now won 39 of its last 40 dual matches dating back to last season.  With its loss, Edgewood falls to 0-10 this season.

BW led, 3-0, after doubles play, and won all six singles matches to secure the victory. 

In doubles, the No. 1 duo of freshmen Peter Harris (Akron/ Richfield Revere) and Doug Ganim (Olentangy/ Orange) defeated seniors Eric Gavinski and Tim Morgan, 8-2, and improved their season record to 13-4 overall.  The No. 2 tandem of sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference standout Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) and junior Academic All-OAC player Brad Minrovic (Akron/ Ellet) beat sophomores Patrick Lagman and Michael Wanta, 8-4, to improve their overall record to 9-3. At No. 3 doubles, senior Alex Kearney (North Olmsted) and junior Zach Elbin (Findlay) defeated freshman Ben Pratscher and sophomore Tyler Thompson, 8-3, and improved to 1-1.

In singles play, No. 1 Patterson defeated Lagman, 6-4 and 6-0, and improved his overall record to 15-3.  No. 2 Harris beat Gavinski, 6-0 and 6-1, to improve to 14-2; at No. 3, Kearney beat Morgan, 6-0 and 6-1, to improve to 12-1; No. 4 Ganim defeated Pratscher, 6-2 and 6-0, to improve his record to 12-3; at No. 5, Minrovic beat Wanta, 6-1 and 6-2, and improved his record to 13-3; at No. 6, junior Dan Rowsey (Ashland) defeated Thompson, 6-2 and 6-3, to improve his record to 5-4.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow, Tuesday, March 12 when they play Gordon (Mass.) College at 8:30 a.m. and then play Northwestern (Minn.) College at 4:00 p.m.
