Horvath is Second Place All-Time, BW Stay Unbeaten

DELAWARE, OHIO – Baldwin Wallace University senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference number one singles standout Joe Horvath (North Royalton) won his 88th career singles match and moved into second place on the all-time win list as the defending Ohio Athletic Conference-champion Yellow Jacket men's tennis team defeated non-league foe Ohio Wesleyan University, 8-1, today (Saturday, March 23, 2013) at the Luttinger Family Tennis Center.  With its victory, BW improves to 15-0 overall.

Horvath defeated OWU's Will Thieman 6-4 and 6-3 to win his 88th career match and surpass Alex Trzeciak (2009-2012) who had an 87-22 career mark.  Horvath is 88-11 with an .889 career winning percentage. The all-time leader is James Daly (2005-2008) with 105 career victories.


In addition to winning its 15th straight match this season, the Yellow Jackets have now won 44 of their last 45 dual matches dating back to last season when they finished 29-1 overall, won both the OAC regular season and OAC Tournament titles and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament.  With its loss, the Battling Bishops are 3-9 overall.


BW swept all six singles matches and took two doubles matches.


In addition to Horvath, sophomore All-OAC No.2 singles player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) won his match against OWU's John Rissell, 6-2 and 6-1, to improve to 18-3 overall.  At No.3 singles, freshman Peter Harris (Akron/ Revere) beat the Battling Bishop's Richie Karban, 6-0 and 6-1, to improve to 17-3.  At No.4 singles, senior All-OAC standout Alexander Kearney (North Olmstead), this week's OAC Player of the Week, won against OWU's Brad Turnwald, 6-2 and 7-5, to improve to 14-1. At No.5 singles, freshman Doug Ganim (Olentangy/ Orange) beat OWU's Matt Swaim, 6-4 and 6-3, to move to 16-3. At No.6 singles, junior Academic All-OAC and
CAPITAL ONEAcademic All-District 7 student-athlete Brad Minrovic (Akron/ Ellet) beat OWU's Austin Okray, 6-1 and 6-3, to improve to 16-4 overall.   

In doubles action, the No. 2 tandem of Patterson and Minrovic won 8-6 to improve to 12-3 overall. The No. 3 duo of seniors Horvath and Kearney won 8-3 to improve to a perfect 11-0.


The Yellow Jackets return to action in their first home and OAC match on Tuesday, March 26 against Muskingum University at 4:00 p.m.
