BW Volleyball Falls on Last Day of OAC/HCAC Challenge

BEXLEY – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on the final day of the Ohio Athletic Conference versus Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Challenge hosted by Capital University. 

The Yellow Jackets (7-10) were defeated by Bluffton University in five sets by scores of 19-25, 25-8, 17-25, 25-22 and 9-15. BW also fell to the College of Mount St. Joseph in four sets by scores of 11-25, 25-23, 16-25 and 20-25.

In the opener versus Bluffton, the Yellow Jackets were led offensively by senior middle hitter Colleen Bonacci (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) with 12 kills and junior outside hitter Alayna Chlad (Kent/Roosevelt) added a season-best 10.  Senior setter Emily Nagle (Columbia Station/Columbia) set up the offense and had a season-high 30 assists.  Junior setter Katie Primeau (Pemberville/Eastwood) also hit double figures in assists with 15.

Defensively, senior libero Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) led with a match-high 24 digs.   Senior defensive specialist Taylor Burns (Tiffin/Fostoria St. Wendelin) contributed 18 digs and Nagle tallied 13.  Senior middle hitter Kayla Harris (Lima) had seven blocks.

Against Mount St. Joseph, Bonacci, who was selected to the All-Tournament team, led again with nine kills.  Nagle set up the offense with 28 assists and had two service aces. Defensively, Deleur led the way with 28 digs and Bonacci had two blocks

Deleur, who ranks 10th on the school's all-time digs list with 1,294, needs just seven more digs to tie Sarah Gordon (2000-02) in ninth place with 1,301.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, September 24 when they travel to cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University at 7:00 p.m. The next home match is on Saturday, September 28 when the Yellow Jackets open OAC play against Muskingum University on Family and Community Day at 12:30 p.m.
