BW Volleyball Defeats Marietta In Regular Season Finale

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball closed out the 2013 regular season by defeating Marietta College, 3-2, in an Ohio Athletic Conference match in the Ban Johson Arena. 

The Yellow Jackets, (11-17, 4-5), beat the Pioneers (12-17, 2-7 OAC) in five sets by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 19-25, 17-25 and 20-18.

The BW offense was led by junior right side hitter Markema Winters (Akron/Firestone) and senior middle hitter Kayla Harris (Lima)  each with 11 kills. Senior setter Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) set up the offense with 41 assists. 

Defensively, freshman libero Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul) led the way with a career-high 35 digs and senior defensive specialist Taylor Burns (Tiffin/Fostoria St. Wendelin) contributed 27 digs. Freshman defensive specialist Allyson Iwanski (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) tallied 26 digs and Deleur added 20.  

The Yellow Jackets will be the sixth seed in the OAC Tournament and will travel to Ada on Tuesday, November 6th to face the No. 3 seed Ohio Northern University at 7 pm.  Please visit the OAC web site at www.oac.org on for a complete tournament bracket.
