BEREA – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team defeats NCAA Division II Notre Dame College, 3-0, in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
The Yellow Jackets (7-6), who have now beaten the Falcons for the fourth straight season, won by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-16. This marked the third time in the last four years that BW has knocked off Notre Dame in straight sets and the Yellow Jackets have just lost one set in that same time.
BW was led offensively by senior middle hitter Colleen Bonacci (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) with 13 kills and junior outside hitter Alayna Chlad (Kent/Roosevelt) added eight. Junior setter Katie Primeau (Pemberville/Eastwood) and senior setter Emily Nagle (Columbia Station/Columbia) each hit double figures in assists, with 17 and 14 respectively.
Defensively, senior defensive specialist Taylor Burns (Tiffin/Fostoria St. Wendelin) led with 15 digs. Senior libero Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) and Nagle each contributed 13 and 10.
The Yellow Jackets next travel to Bexley this Friday and Saturday, September 20 and 21 to compete in the Ohio Athletic Conference and Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Challenge hosted by Capital University. BW will face Hanover (Ind.) College at 4 p.m. and Transylvania (Ky.) University at 8 p.m. on Friday. The Yellow Jackets close out the challenge on Saturday against Bluffton University at 9:30 a.m. and the College of Mount St. Joseph at 1:30 p.m.
