BW Volleyball Team Beats Host Wilmington, 3-0

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team defeated Wilmington College, 3-0, today (Saturday, October 19, 2013) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match in Fred Razik Arena.  The victory ended a three-match losing streak.  In addition, this was the first of two matches today as BW plays at No.11-ranked Wittenberg University tonight at 7 pm.
 
The Yellow Jackets, 9-14 overall and 2-3 in the OAC, defeated the Quakers, 1-15 overall and 0-5 in the OAC, by the scores of 25-9, 25-9 and 25-21.
 
BW was led offensively by senior two-time Academic All-OAC student-athlete ad middle hitter Colleen Bonacci (Stow/ Stow-Monroe Falls) with 16 kills and a .556 hitting percentage (just one error in 27 attempts). In addition, senior Taylor Burns (Tiffin/ Fostroria St. Wendelin) had six. The offense was set up by senior Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) with 34 set assists and seven defensive digs.  
 
Defensively, freshman libero Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/ St. Paul) led the way with 15 digs. 
 
With her seven digs today, Deleur surpassed Emily Albanese (2002-2005) and moved into seventh place on the all-time digs list with 1,392. She needs 221 more to catch Kim Stoll (2003-2004) who is sixth with 1,613 digs.
 
Following its match at Wittenberg this evening, BW returns home and will end its 2013 home schedule next week.
