BW Volleyball Splits On First Day of Marcia French Invitational

BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of the 15th Annual Marcia French Memorial Invitational in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center on Friday.  The 10-team tournament is being co-hosted by BW and Case Western Reserve University.

 The Yellow Jackets (3-3) defeated Geneva (Pa.) College in five sets by scores of 15-25, 28-26, 22-25, 25-18 and 15-11 and fell to Westminster (Pa.) College by scores of 25-23, 22-25, 19-25 and 20-25.

In the opener versus Geneva, BW was led offensively by senior middle hitter Kayla Harris (Lima) with 13 kills and senior middle hitter Colleen Bonnaci (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) added 11.  Junior setter Katie Primeau (Pemberville/Eastwood) and senior setter Emily Nagle (Columbia Station/Columbia) each hit double figures in assists with 23 and 21 respectively.  
 
On defense, senior libero Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls), senior defensive specialist Taylor Burns (Tiffin/Fostoria St. Wendelinn), Nagle, freshman defensive specialist Allyson Iwanski (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) and sophomore outside hitter Anna Miley (West Salem/Northwestern) all recorded double figures in digs.  Deleur led the way with 30, Burns had 23, Nagle tallied 20, Iwanski contributed 11 and Miley recorded 10.
 
Versus Westminster, the Yellow Jackets were led offensively by Bonacci with 19 digs followed by Harris with nine.  Nagle and Primeau again set up the offense with double figure numbers with 22 and 16.
 
On defense, four players were in double figures in digs led by Iwanski with 22.  Burns followed with 17, Nagle had 16 and Deleur added 15.
 
BW will wrap up play at the Marcia French Invitational tomorrow against The College of Wooster at 10 a.m. and Buffalo State (N.Y.) University at 2 p.m.
