BW Drops Home Opener to DII Ashland; Defeats Marietta 9-0 in First OAC Match of the Season

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team fell to NCAA Division II Ashland University, 9-0, but beat Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta College, 9-0, in the Jackets' second match of the day.


Ashland swept the Yellow Jackets in doubles competition and won all six singles matches.

Versus Marietta, BW jumped out to a 3-0 lead in doubles competition as the No.1 team of junior Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/Bishop Hartley) and freshman Rebecca Mittler (Elyria) won 8-0, the No. 2 duo of sophomore Jenny Greene (Worthington) and junior Nicole Fung (Strongsville) won 8-1, and the No. 3 team of junior Katy Marshall (Medina/Senior) and senior Andrea Essig (Conneaut) won 8-0.

In singles play, the Yellow Jackets swept competition with Pecinovsky winning at No.1, Greene at No. 2, Mittler at No.3, Essig at No.4, Marshall at No.5, and freshman Danielle Rueger (Ashland/Senior) at No. 6.

BW's next match will take place on Tuesday, March 23 versus Walsh University at 3:30 p.m. at the "Pop" Collins Courts in Berea.
