BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team clinched at least a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season championship with a 9-0 victory at Muskingum University today (Friday, April 30, 2010) in New Concord. The Yellow Jackets have now won 11 matches in a row and can clinch the OAC title outright with a win versus Wilmington College on Sunday.
The Yellow Jackets are now 14-7 overall and 8-0 in the OAC. BW has already clinched the top seed in next week's conference tournament and closes out the regular season versus Wilmington on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in Berea. Muskingum falls to 3-12 and 1-8 in the OAC.
BW took a 3-0 lead in doubles play as the number one duo of junior Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/Columbus Bishop Hartley) and freshman Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/Catholic) won, 8-2; the No.2 tandem of junior Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/Green) and sophomore Jenny Greene (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) won 8-1; and the No. 3 team of junior Katy Marshall (Medina/Senior) and freshman Anna Callahan (Williamsville, N.Y./Clarence Central) won, 8-0.
In singles play, BW won all six matches in straight sets. Pecinovsky won at No. 1, Greene at No. 2, Mittler at No. 3, Pelosi at No. 4, Marshall at No. 5, and freshman Danielle Rueger (Ashland/Senior) at No. 6.
Following Sunday's match with Wilmington, BW will host an OAC Tournament quarterfinal match on Tuesday, May 4 at 3:30 p.m. in Berea.
The OAC Final Four is on Friday and Saturday, May 7-8, at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. The winner of the OAC Tournament receives the OAC's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
