BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival and defending OAC champion Ohio Northern University, 6-3, today (Saturday, April 17, 2010) in a match that began at the "Pop" Collins Tennis Courts and ended the Lou Higgins Recreation Center in Berea. BW has now won eight matches in a row.

With its win, BW improves to 11-7 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the OAC. ONU falls to 6-8 overall and 3-2 in the OAC.

The Polar Bears took a 2-1 lead in doubles as ONU won at the first and second doubles positions by identical 8-6 scores.  The Yellow Jacket No.3 duo of junior Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) and senior Andrea Essig (Conneaut/ Ashtabula Edgewood) won easily at 8-1 to improve to 10-10 overall and a perfect 5-0 in OAC play.

BW won the match by winning five of six singles matches. The winners were junior No. 1 Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/Columbus Bishop Hartley), freshman No.3 player Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/ Catholic), junior No.4 player Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/ Green), Essig at No.5 and Marshall at No. 6.  Marshall and Pelosi are tied for the team lead in singles wins with 13 each. Pelosi is 13-4 and Marshall is 13-6.

The BW women next play on Tuesday, April 20 when they travel to Tiffin to play Heidelberg University at 3:30 p.m. The Yellow Jackets remain on the road next Saturday, April 24 with an OAC match at Wilmington College at 1:00 p.m. The final home match of the season, Seniors' Day, is on Wednesday, April 28 when BW hosts Otterbein College at 3:30 p.m. at the Collins Courts in Berea.
