BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team defeated non-league foe Malone University, 9-0, today (Tuesday, April 6) in Berea for its fourth straight victory.

With its win, BW improves to 7-7 overall, while Malone fell to 1-11 overall.

The Yellow Jackets took a commanding 3-0 lead in doubles as they outscored the Pioneers, 24-5 overall. The number one duo of junior Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Columbus Bishop Hartley) and freshman Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/ Elyria Catholic) won 8-2, the No.2 tandem of sophomore Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington) and junior Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/ Green) won, 8-2 and the No.3 team of junior Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) and senior Andrea Essig (Conneaut/ Ashtabula Edgewood) also won 8-1.  The win by Marshall and Essig was their team-leading eighth and improved their record to 8-9 overall. Pecinovsky and Mittler are now 7-10 and Green and Pelosi are 7-8 overall.

In singles play, BW won all six matches and outscored Malone, 72-18.  At No.1, Pecinovsky won, 6-1 and 6-1, No.2 Greene won, 6-4 and 6-3, No.3 Mittler won, 6-3 and 6-1, No.4 Pelosi won, 6-0 and 6-0, No.5 Essig won, 6-1 and 6-2, and No.6 Marshall won, 6-1 and 6-1.  With her win, Pelosi captured her team-leading 10th win and improved to 10-4 overall and Marshall won at No.6 and improved to 9-5 overall. In addition, Pecinovsky is now 7-8, Green is 6-10, Mittler is 8-8 and Essig is 6-11.

In addition to the regular match, junior Nicole Fung (Strongsville) defeated Malone's Katie Burch in exhibition play, 8-1.

The BW women are now idle until Saturday, April 10 when it plays a key Ohio Athletic Conference match against Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University at 1:00 p.m. and then play NCAA Division II Lake Erie College at 3:00 p.m. at JCU.  The next home match is on Wednesday, April 14 when the Yellow Jackets host OAC arch-rival Mount Union College at the "Pop" Collins Courts in Berea at 3:30 p.m.
