BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team shut out Ohio Athletic Conference rival Heidelberg University, 9-0, today (Tuesday, April 20, 2010) in a match in Tiffin, Ohio for its ninth straight victory.
With its win, BW improves to 12-7 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the OAC and next plays on Saturday when it travels to Wilmington, Ohio for an OAC Match versus the Wilmington College Quakers at 1:00 p.m. A win at Wilmington would set up a potential OAC regular season championship match next Wednesday in Berea. Heidelberg falls to 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the OAC.
The Yellow Jackets took a 3-0 lead in doubles as the number one duo of junior Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Clumbus Bishop Hartley) and freshman Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/Catholic) won, 8-0, the No.2 tandem of juniors Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/ Green) and Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) won, 8-2, and the No.3 duo of senior Andrea Essig (Conneaut/ Ashtabula Edgewood) and sophomore Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington) won by forfeit.
BW won all six singles matches as Pecinovsky won at No.1, 6-1 and 6-3, Greene won at No.2, 6-1 and 6-4, Mittler won at No.3, 6-1 and 6-3, Pelosi won at No.4, 6-0 and 6-0, Essig won at No.5, 6-2 and 6-0, and Marshall won by forfeit. Pelosi tops the team in singles wins with 14 and she is 14-4. Marshall is second with 13 victories and is 13-6 overall. In addition, Pecinovsky is now 11-8 and Mittler is 11-9 overall.
Following its match at Wilmington on Saturday, BW plays its final home match of the season on Seniors' Day on Wednesday, April 28 when it hosts Otterbein College at 3:30 p.m. at the Collins Courts in Berea. Currently, BW and Otterbein are the only two undefeated teams in the OAC at 6-0.
