BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team lost to NCAA Division II University of Charleston (W. Va.), 7-2, and 14th-ranked Washington (Mo.) University, 7-1, on the second day (Monday, March 8, 2010) of its annual Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Yellow Jackets will play three more matches in Hilton Head.
Charleston swept doubles competition and won four of six singles matches. In singles play, junior number one player Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/Bishop Hartley) won in a third set super tie-breaker by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6). Junior No. 4 Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/Green) also won 6-2, 6-2.
Versus Washington, BW's lone win came at sixth singles from junior Katy Marshall (Medina/Senior). The match was cut short due to darkness with one singles match still in progress.
The Yellow Jackets, 1-5 overall, are back in action tomorrow versus Catawba (N.C) College at 8:00 a.m. and Elizabethtown (Pa.) College at 6:00 p.m.
The first spring northern matches will take place on Saturday, March 20 when BW hosts a doubleheader against NCAA Division II Ashland University at 11:00 a.m. and then versus Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta College at 3:00 p.m. All matches are played at the "Pop" Collins Courts on the BW campus.
