BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Mount Union College, 7-2, today (Wednesday, April 14, 2010) at the "Pop" Collins Tennis Courts in Berea. BW has now won seven matches in a row.
With its win, BW improves to 10-7 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the OAC. Mount Union falls to 10-4 overall and 2-2 in the OAC.
The Yellow Jackets took a 2-1 lead in doubles as the number two duo of sophomore Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington) and junior Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/ Green) won 8-2, and the No.3 team of junior Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) and senior Andrea Essig (Conneaut/ Ashtabula Edgewood) won 8-3.
In singles play, BW won five of six matches. Junior No. 1 Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/Columbus Bishop Hartley) won 6-2 and 6-1, Greene won, 6-4 and 6-3 at No. 2, freshman No.3 player Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/ Catholic) won 6-2 and 7-6 (7-5) at No. 3, Pelosi won, 6-0 and 6-0 at No. 4, and Marshall won, 6-3 and 6-0 at No. 6.
The BW women next play on Saturday, April 17 when it hosts defending OAC champion Ohio Northern University for Alumni Day at the "Pop" Collins Courts in Berea at 12:00 noon.
