BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team shut out Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital University, 9-0, today (Saturday, March 27) in Bexley for its third straight victory. BW dominated the match by winning 96 of a possible 100 points.
With its win, BW improves to 6-7 overall and 2-0 in the OAC, while Capital falls to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.
The Yellow Jackets took a commanding 3-0 lead in doubles as they outscored the Crusaders, 24-1 overall. The number one duo of junior Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Columbus Bishop Hartley) and freshman Rebecca Mitler (Elyria/ Elyria Catholic) won 8-1, the No. 2 tandem of sophomore Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington) and junior Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/ Green) won, 8-0 and the No.3 team of junior Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) and senior Andrea Essig (Conneaut/ Ashtabula Edgewood) also won 8-0.
The win by Marshall and Essig was their team-leading seventh and improved their record to 7-9 overall. Pecinovsky and Mitler are now 6-10 and Green and Pelosi are 6-8 overall.
In singles play, BW won all six matches and outscored Capital, 72-3. At No.1, Pecinovsky won, 6-1 and 6-0, No.2 Greene won, 6-1 and 6-0, No.3 Mitler won, 6-1 and 6-0, No.4 Pelosi won, 6-0 and 6-0, No.5 Essig won, 6-0 and 6-0, and No.6 Marshall won, 6-0 and 6-0.
With her win at No.4, Pelosi captured her team-leading ninth win and improved to 9-4 overall and Marshall improved to 8-5 overall. In addition, Pecinovsky is now 6-8, Green is 5-10, Mitler is 7-8 and Essig is 5-11.
The BW women are now idle until Tuesday, April 6 when they host non-league foe Malone University on the "Pop" Collins Courts in Berea at 3:30 p.m.
