Lindsey Cooper Strikes Twice As Women’s Soccer Blanks Penn State Behrend


ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA -- Senior midfielder Lindsey Cooper (Westerville/New Albany) scored two goals as the Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team shut out host Penn State-Behrend University, 3-0, today (Sunday, September 2, 2012) to capture the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament Championship. 

Junior midfielder Kayla Losco (Hopewell Twp., Pa. ) was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
 
With the win, BW improves to 2-0 this season and has held both of its opponents scoreless.  The Lions are now 0-2 overall.
 
In the first half, Cooper took the cross from junior defender Emily Sanders (Canton/South) and found the back of the net on a header at the 9:34 mark.  The assist was the first of the season for Sanders.

In the second half, Cooper tallied her second goal of the game at 60:17. Cooper took the attempted clear of a Yellow Jacket corner kick by a Penn State-Behrend defender and tallied the game's second score.  BW would add a final tally when sophomore forward Ashley Stevens (Mansfield/Lexington) scored her first goal of the season off the first career assist for freshman forward Cheryl Bell (Piqua) at 82:13

The Yellow Jacket defense and freshman goalkeeper Emily Tallmadge (Fairview Park/Fairview) allowed just two shots but none were on-goal.   Tallmadge improves to 2-0 on the season with two shutouts. Penn State-Behrend net minder Troyan Taylor faced 10 BW shots, including nine on-goal with six saves
 
In the game, the Yellow Jackets outshot the Lions, 10-2, and won the corner kick battle, 3-2.
 
BW next plays on Tuesday, September 4 when it travels to Oberlin to face Oberlin College in a nonleague men's and women's doubleheader at 8:00 p.m. Next weekend, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7-8, the BW women travel to play The College of Wooster on Friday at 11:00 a.m. and then play Earlham (Ind.) College on Saturday at 12:00 noon.

On Tuesday, October 9, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Heidelberg University in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO).  This is the fifth straight year that BW has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a 7-1 combined record on the line, including a 4-0 mark by the women.
