Cooper Goal Leads BW to 1-0 Win Versus Westminster

BEREA, OHIO --  Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference midfielder Lindsey Cooper (Westerville/ New Albany) scored on a header at the 70:17 mark and the Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team defeated visiting Westminster (Pa.) College 1-0, today (Saturday, September 22, 2012) in a non-conference match on the Tressel Field pitch in The George Finnie Stadium in the first match of a women's and men's doubleheader. The men's match between BW and Westminster kicks off at 3:30 p.m.

With its win, BW is 5-1-3 overall and has won two straight matches. The shutout was the fourth of the season for the Yellow Jackets.  With its loss, Westminster is 3-4-2 overall.


In the first half, the game was scoreless as BW had three shots, including two on-goal, while holding the Titans did not get a shot off.


In the second half, BW had a number of chances and finally broke through when Cooper took a corner kick from junior center fullback Kayla Losco (Hopwell Township, Pa./ Hopewell) and headed the ball into the net for her team-leading sixth goal of the season. The assist was the third of the season for Losco.

 

Freshman Yellow Jacket goalkeeper Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa.) faced just one Titan shot, which was on-goal, and made one save in 90 minutes of action to improve to 5-1-3 this season. Westminster netminder senior Jenn Cantella faced 13 Yellow Jacket shots, including six on-goal, allowed one goal and made five saves in 90 minutes.


In the game, the BW outshot the Titans, 13-1, and won the corner kick battle, 6-0.


The Yellow Jacket women next play on Wednesday, Sept. 25 when they host Bethany (W.Va.) College at Finnie Stadium at 7:00 p.m. BW opens its 2012 OAC schedule next Saturday in Westerville against Otterbein University at 1:00 p.m. in the first match of a women's and men's doubleheader. The men kickoff at 3:30 p.m.


On Tuesday, October 9, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Heidelberg University in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO).  This is the fifth straight year that BW has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a 7-1 combined record on the line, including a 4-0 mark by the women.
