WESTERVILLE, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team fell to Otterbein University, 2-0, today (Saturday, September 29, 2012) in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both teams at Clements Field. This was the first game of a women's and men's OAC doubleheader as the men kickoff at 3:00 p.m.
With their loss, the Yellow Jackets, who are ranked seventh in the Great Lakes Region, fall to 6-2-3 overall and 0-1 in the OAC. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in the OAC.
In the first half, Otterbein scored the first goal of the match at the 9:23 mark when Molly Kroger finished a pass across the box from Jessica Yaney in the top left corner of the net to make the score 1-0. The Cardinals then extended their lead to 2-0 when BW scored an own goal at the 15:19 mark.
The game was scoreless in the second half as the Yellow Jackets were unable to recover from the quick start from the Cardinals .
Yellow Jacket freshman goalkeeper Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa.) faced eight Cardinal shots, allowed two goals and made four saves in 90 minutes of action. Otterbein goalkeeper Dana Strimbu faced 10 BW shots, allowed no goals and made three saves in 90 minutes.
In the game, BW outshot Otterbein, 10-8, and won the corner kick battle, 5-4.
The Yellow Jackets return home to friendly confines of the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium on Wednesday, October 3 when they host the Fighting Muskies of Muskingum in an OAC match at 7:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, October 9, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Heidelberg University in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO). This is the fifth straight year that BW has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a 7-1 combined record on the line, including a 4-0 mark by the women.
