BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team, ranked seventh in the most recent NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Great Lakes Region poll, was upset by host Wilmington College, 2-0, tonight (Saturday, October 13, 2012) in an Ohio Athletic Conference at Charles Gilhart Field.
With its win, Wilmington is now 9-5-1 overall and 2-3 in the OAC. With its loss, BW is now 9-3-3 overall and 3-2 in the OAC and ends a three-match winning streak. The loss was just the second in BW's last eight matches.
In the first half, the Quakers took a 1-0 lead at the 11:15 mark when forward Sarah Watters netted the first goal of the contest off an assist from forward Lauren Price. The score remained that way at the intermission.
In the second half, Wilmington made it a 2-0 advantage at the 56:00 mark when Price scored an unassisted goal. Then the Quakers played great defense and shut out BW. It was just the fourth time this season that the Yellow Jackets were shut out.
In net for the Yellow Jackets, freshman goalkeeper Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa./ Fairview) faced 17 Quaker shots, allowed two goals and made five saves in 90:00 minutes of action. Wilmington goaltender Sarah Stauffer recorded a shutout as she faced 11 Yellow Jacket shots, and made five saves in 90:00 minutes of action.
In the match, Wilmington outshot BW, 17-11, and the Quakers won the corner kick battle, 6-2.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, October 17 when they host OAC and cross-town rival John Carroll University for an OAC match on the Tressel Field turf in The George Finnie Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
