Women Soccer Beats Earlham (Ind.), 4-1

WOOSTER, OHIO --   Four separate student-athletes each scored a goal as the Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team beat Earlham (Ind.) College, 4-1, today in its second match at The College of Wooster Invitational Tournament to remain undefeated.
 
With its win, BW finished the Wooster Tournament with a 1-0-1 mark and is 3-0-2 overall. The Yellow Jackets placed second to Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern University (2-0 at Wooster). BW next plays traditional rival Hiram College on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 7:00 p.m.  With its loss, Earlham is now 2-2 overall.

In the first half, BW gained a 1-0 lead at the 9:14 mark when junior midfielder Kayla Losco (Hopewell Township, Pa./ Hopewell) scored an unassisted goal from 30 yards out and sent the ball to the upper right corner of the goal. The goal was the first this season for Losco, who was the Most Valuable Player at last week's Penn State Behrend (Pa.) Tournament.

The lead grew to 2-0 at 12:17 when freshman forward Cheryl Bell (Piqua) score via an assist from junior defender Kari Trivisonno (Mentor). Bell's goal was her team-high-tying third of the season and Trivisonno's assist was her second this season.

BW increased its advantage to 3-0 at 32-17 when freshman forward Audrie Wolfe (Hilliard/Darby) received a left-to-right cross from junior forward Heather Keller (Parma) and touched the ball into the net. It was Wolfe's first career goal and Keller's first assist this season.

Earlham got a bit closer right before the half when it received a goal from senior midfielder Paige Thomas at the 41:11 mark.

In the second half, senior All-OAC player Lindsey Cooper (Westerville/ New Albany) scored her third goal of the season when Earlham failed to clear the ball from its own goal and she placed it in the lower right corner of the net. Cooper's goal tied Bell for the team lead and now gives her 13 for her career.
 
Yellow Jacket freshman goalkeeper Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) faced 13 Earlham shots, including 11 on-goal, allowed one Quaker goal and had six saves.  She improves to 3-0-2 this season with three shutouts. After five matches, Tallmadge is allowing just 0.37 goals per game in 490 minutes of action. Earlham netminder freshman AJ Johnson faced 14 BW shots, including 10 on-goal, allowed all four BW goals and made 10 saves
 
In the game, the Yellow Jackets outshot the Quakers, 14-13, and the corner kick battle was tied, 4-4.
 
Following Wednesday's match at Hiram, the BW women open the 2012 home schedule on Saturday, Sept. 15 against Grove City (Pa.) College at 3:30 p.m. in the nightcap of a men's and women's doubleheader.

On Tuesday, October 9, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Heidelberg University in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO).  This is the fifth straight year that BW has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a 7-1 combined record on the line, including a 4-0 mark by the women.
