BW Women’s Soccer Defeats Heidelberg on STO

BEREA, OHIO – Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team shutout Heidelberg University, 3-0,  in an Ohio Athletic Conference and SportsTime Ohio (STO) televised match on the Tressel Field inside The George Finnie Stadium.   

With its win, BW, improved to 9-2-3 overall and 3-1 in the OAC and now has won three straight. With its loss, Heidelberg is now 2-9-1 overall and 1-3 in the OAC.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets opened the scoring at 1-0 when junior midfielder Rachel Gokey (Seville/ Cloverleaf) headed in a corner kick from junior midfielder Kayla Losco (Hopewell Township, Pa./ Hopwell) at the 4:11 mark.   It was the first goal of the season for Gokey and a team and OAC-leading eighth assist of the season for Losco.

BW added to its lead at 2-0 when freshman forward Audrie Wolfe (Hilliard/ Darby) took a through ball from junior defender Emily Sanders (Canton/Jackson) and beat Student Prince Freshman goalie Julie Cross for her fourth goal of the season at 6:58.

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 3-0 when Losco scored her second goal of the season as she put the free-kick under the cross bar at the 63:21 mark.

In net for the Yellow Jackets, freshman goalkeeper Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa.) faced two Student Prince shots, including one on-goal, did not allow a goal and made one save in 75 minutes of action.  Tallmadge is now 9-2-3 overall with seven shutouts.   Sophomore Gabrielle Bodo (Alliance/St. Thomas Aquinas) made her first appearance of the season as she played the final 15:00 minutes and did not face a shot.  Heidelberg's Cross faced 19 Yellow Jacket shots, including 11on-goal, allowed three goals and made eight saves in 90 minutes of action.

In the match, BW outshot the Student Princes, 19-2, and won the corner kick battle, 5-0.

The team is back in action on Saturday, October 13 when it travels to Wilmington to take on the Quakers of Wilmington College in the first match of a women's and men's OAC doubleheader at 4:30 p.m.   The BW men kickoff at 7:00 p.m.   The next home match is on Wednesday, October 17 when the team welcomes cross-town rival John Carroll University for an OAC match at 7:00 p.m.
