BW Women’s Soccer Team Beats Marietta, 5-1

MARIETTA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team defeated host Marietta College, 5-1, today in an Ohio Athletic Conference match at Marietta Field.  The victory for BW clinched second place and a bye in a the first round of next week's OAC Tournament.

With their victory, the Yellow Jackets, who are ranked eighth in this week's NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Division III Great Lakes Region poll, improved to 12-3-4 overall and 6-2-1 in the OAC and will open OAC Tournament play on Wednesday night at home with a 7:00 p.m. game at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea.  With their loss, the Pioneers fall to 3-13-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the OAC.  BW outshot Marietta, 25-6, and won the battle of corner kicks, 7-3.

In the first half, senior Lindsey Cooper (Westerville /New Albany) opened the scoring for the Yellow Jackets in the 17th minute with her ninth goal of the season.  Katie Klespies (Chicago, Ill. /Chicago Laboratory) added to the lead for BW at 40:55 mark making the score 2-0.  The goal was assisted by Rachel Gokey (Seville /Cloverleaf) this is her second assist on the year.  The Yellow Jacket out shot the Pioneers 13-3 and won the corner kick battle 2-1.
 
In the second half,Heather Keller (Parma) continued the scoring for the Yellow Jackets in the at the 46:45 mark making the score 3-0.  Kadi Tucker (Mason) gave BW a 4-0 lead with her goal in the 56:54 minute.  Kayla Losco (Hopewell Twp., Pa. / Hopewell) had the assist  and this was her ninth assist on the year. Kari Trivisonno (Mentor) gave the Yellow Jackets a 5-0 lead with her goal at the 78:10 mark.  The Pioneers got on the board by taking advantage of the penalty kick at the 85:18 mark.  The goal was scored by Holly Simms making the score 5-1.    

In net for the Yellow Jackets, OAC Women's Soccer Player-of-the-Week freshman goalkeeper Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa.) faced six Pioneer shots, including three on-goal, allowed one goals and made two saves in 82:54 minutes of action. Kristina Mathur (Mason) saw seven minutes and six second of action faced zero shots.  

Marietta goaltender Kaitlyn Pearse faced 25 BW shots, including 13 on-goal, allowed 5 goals and made 8 saves in 90 minutes of action.
