BW Women’s Soccer Team Defeats Mount Union, 3-0

ALLIANCE, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team defeated the University of Mount Union by a final score of 3-0 tonight (Tuesday, October 23, 2012) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match in Mount Union Stadium.

With this victory, the Yellow Jackets, who are ranked eighth in this week's NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Division III Great Lakes Region poll, improved to 11-3-4 overall and 5-2-1 in the OAC.  With the loss, the Purple Raiders fall to 10-6 overall and 4-4 in the OAC.

In the first half, BW opened the scoring when junior forward Kari Trivisonno (Mentor) scored on an assist from junior defender Sami Riveron (Maineville/ Kings) to make it 1-0 at the 23:02 mark.  The goal marked Trivisonno's second goal of the season, while giving Riveron her first assist on the year. The Yellow Jackets outshot the Purple Raiders 11-5 and won the corner kick battle 2-1 in the first half.

In the second half, BW added to their lead with two quick goals. The first goal came at the 56:16 mark from Trivisonno, who scored her second goal of the game and her third of the season, off an assist by freshman defender Kadi Tucker (Mason), with her first assist on the year. The next goal came less than two minutes later at the 58:14 mark, as junior forward Rachel Gokey (Seville/ Cloverleaf) scored off an assist from freshman midfielder Emma Harding (Akron/ Revere). The goal was Gokey's second on the year, while it was Harding's first assist of the season.

In net for the Yellow Jackets, OAC Women's Soccer Player-of-the-Week freshman goalkeeper Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa.) faced eight Purple Raider shots, including two on-goal, allowed zero goals and made two saves in 79:10 minutes of action. Gabrielle Bodo (Alliance/ St. Thomas Aquinas) came in for the final 10:50 minutes of play and saw no Purple Raider shots. The Yellow Jackets now have three consecutive games without allowing a goal. Mount Union goaltender Maria Favorite faced 17 BW shots, including eight on-goal, allowed three goal and made five saves in 83:23 minutes of action. Briana Curd came in with 6:37 left in the game and faced two shots and made one save.

The Yellow Jackets close out the regular season on Saturday, October 27 when they travel to Marietta to take on the Pioneers of Marietta College in the first game of a women's and men's OAC soccer doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
