OBERLIN, OHIO -- Cheryl Bell (Piqua) scored the lone goal as the Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team tied host Oberlin College, 1-1 in double overtime, today (Tuesday, September 4, 2012) on Fred Shults Field.
With the win, BW now stands at 2-0-1 this season and Oberlin is now 0-1-1 overall.
In the first half, freshman forward Bell started off the game by scoring a goal at the 2:12 mark assisted by freshman forward Audrie Wolfe (Hilliard/Darby) making the score 1-0. This was Bell's second goal this season and Wolfe's first career assist.
In the second half, the Yeowomen opened up scoring at the 56:20 mark by Lillian Jahan to tie the game at 1-1. This was the first goal of the season given up by the Yellow Jacket defense snapping a 236 minute scoreless streak. At the end of regulation, the score remained 1-1. Through two overtimes, there was no scoring ending the game in a tie.
Freshman goalkeeper Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) faced eight shots, including six on-goal, and had five saves. Oberlin netminder Kate Frost faced 27 BW shots, including 18 on-goal with 17 saves
In the game, the Yellow Jackets outshot the Yeowomen, 27-8, and won the corner kick battle, 13-3.
BW next plays on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8-9, when it travels to The College of Wooster to play the host school on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and then plays Earlham (Ind.) College at Wooster on Sunday at 12:00 p.m..
On Tuesday, October 9, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Heidelberg University in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO). This is the fifth straight year that BW has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a 7-1 combined record on the line, including a 4-0 mark by the women.
