BW ATHLETICS INFORMATION:   Garrett Chase is one of the best wrestlers ever to compete at Baldwin Wallace University. The 2015 NCAA Division III All-American and two-time first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection is BW's all-time leader in career victories with 129.

ACADEMIC SUCCESS:  Garrett carries a 3.314 grade point average and received NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) Scholar-All-America honors as a senior.

BW's ALL-TIME VICTORY LEADER--  Garrett is BW's all-time leader in career victories with 129 and had a 129-37 career mark with a 777 winning percentage.

DIVISION III ALL-AMERICA HONORS:   As a junior in 2014-2015, Garrett earned NCAA Division III All-America honors with a seventh place finish at the 2015 Division III National Tournament. He returned to the 2015-2016 NCAA Div. III National Tournament but did not place.

2016 NCAA MIDEAST REGIONAL TITLE:   Garrett had a 4-0 record and won the 174-pound title at the 2016 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional.

ALL-OAC HONORS:  As both a junior in 2014-2015 and senior in 2015-2016, Garrett earned first-team All-OAC honors.

OAC WRESTLER OF THE WEEK:  Garrett earned OAC Wrestler of the Week honors three imes during his career, twice as a junior and once as a senior.

INDIVIDUAL TITLES:  Garrett won six individual titles during his career (see more in through-the-years).

BW HONOR:  Garrett received the Jerry Zemelka Award at the 2015 Student-Athletes Awards ceremony.

CAREER SYNOPSIS:   Garrett Chase is one of the best wrestlers ever to compete at Baldwin Wallace University. He is BW's all-time leader in career wins with 129. He helped the Yellow Jackets to compile a 47-20 dual match record, including setting the record for wins in a season as a junior with 17 and senior with 18, their first OAC wrestling title since 1973 with a 5-0 mark in 2015-2016 and two straight high finishes at the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Individually, Garrett was a two-time NCAA Division III national qualifier (2014-2015 and 2015-2016) and a Div. III All-American in 2014-2015. He also was a NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) Scholar All-American in 2015-2016. Garrett was a two-time first-team All-OAC selection, a three-time OAC Wrestler of the Week award-winner and a two-time All-Mideast Region honoree. He compiled a school-record 129 wins with a 129-37 record with a .777 winning percentage and six individual titles, including being the 2016 NCAA Div. III Mideast Region champ at 174 pounds. Garrett also had16 pins (falls) and nine technical falls. He also had 223 takedowns, 261 escapes, 16 reversals and 120 total near falls.

THROUGH-THE-YEARS:  As a freshman in 2012-2013, Garrett competed his first season of wrestling and earned his first varsity letter. He was the starting 157-pounder and led the team in victories with 32 and had a 32-13 overall record with three pins, two technical falls, 62 takedowns, a team-leading 73 escapes, four reversals and 19 total near falls.  Garrett placed at a number of tournaments and helped lead BW to win the Manchester (Ind.) University Tournament title. BW finished 4-4 in dual matches.

As a sophomore in 2013-2014, Garrett competed in his second season of wrestling and earned his second letter. He was the starting 157 pounder. He won individual titles at 157 pounds at the BW Open (Nov. 2, 2013) and the Washington & Jefferson, Pa. Invitational (Nov. 9, 2013). Garrett had a 27-9 record with three pins and one technical fall. He also had 37 takedowns, 59 escapes, two reversals and 15 total near falls. BW finished 8-3 overall and 22nd at the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

As a junior in 2014-2015, Garrett competed in his third season of wrestling and earned his third letter. He started at 174 pounds. Garrett was a first-team All-OAC selection. He earned the OAC Wrestler of the Week award on December 15, 2014 for his efforts (4-0 record) at the United States Merchant Marine Academy Duals. Garrett won an individual title at the Brockport (N.Y.) University Tournament. He was named OAC Wrestler of the Week on February 9, 2015 for week's 5-0 record last week, including a 4-0 mark and the 174-pound title at the 29th Annual John Summa Memorial Tournament. Garrett placed second at the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament and was seventh at the 2015 NCAA Division III National Tournament to earn Div. III All-American honors. Individually, Garrett had a 37-8 record with six pins and two falls. He also had 62 takedowns, a team-leading 68 escapes, eight reversals and 24 total near falls. BW finished with a school-record 17 victories, finished 17-6 overall, including a 4-1 OAC dual match mark, won the Summa Memorial Tournament title, placed sixth at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional and 20th at the NCAA Div. III National Tournament.

As a senior in 2015-2016, Garrett competed in his fourth season of wrestling and earned his fourth letter. He started at 174 pounds and earned the sixth seed at the 2016 NCAA Division III National Tournament. Garrett earned his 100th career victory with a 17-2 technical fall in a 29-6 victory against Lycoming (Pa.) College at the Mt. Union Duals. He had a 4-0 record at the 2016 Multi-Divisional National Duals in Ft. Wayne, Ind. on Jan. 8-9, 2016 and subsequently earned his third OAC Wrestler of the Week honor. He earned first-team All-OAC honors for the second straight season. He won an individual title at the 2016 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Tournament at Lycoming (Pa.) with a 4-0 record, including wins against the No.5 and No.7-ranked wrestlers in his weight class. At the Div. III National Tournament, Garrett won his first match but then lost two straight and was eliminated. He finished his season with a 33-7 record with four pins and four technical falls. Garrett also had 62 takedowns, 61 escapes, two reversals and 62 total near falls. BW compiled a school-record 18 victories with an 18-8 overall record, won the OAC title with a perfect 5-0 record and placed an all-time best second at the NCAA Div. III Mideast Regional Tournament. BW also was 31st of 53 teams at the NCAA Division III National Championships.

HOMETOWN & HIGH SCHOOL BACKGROUND:   Garrett Chase grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania and graduated from Erie Catholic Prep High School.

Garrett wrestled and played soccer for four years. He earned three varsity letters in soccer and four in wrestling.  Garrett was an All-District soccer player during his senior year.
