Baldwin Wallace Wrestlers Start Season 0-2 at Ohio Duals

GENEVA, Ohio --  The Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team began its 2015-2016 season with an 0-2 mark at the Ohio Duals at the Spire Institute. The Ohio Duals involves mostly NCAA Division I and II teams.

The Yellow Jackets (0-2) lost to NCAA Division I Cleveland State University, 27-12, and lost to NCAA Division II Tiffin University, 23-19.  A year ago, BW set a school-record with 17 wins and had a 17-5 record.

In the loss to CSU, the Yellow Jackets received wins from senior two-time NCAA Division III All-American Jesse Gunter (Akron/ Coventry) at 133 pounds, senior Div. III national qualifier David Shapiro (Beachwood) at 165 pounds, senior Div. III All-American Garrett Chase (Erie, Pa./ Cathedral Prep) at 174 pounds and senior four-year starter Ben LeBrun (Strongsville) at 184 pounds.

Despite the Tiffin loss, Gunter won by pin at 133, senior four-year starter Joey Schmidt (Hinckley/ Brunswick) won by decision at 149 pounds, Shapiro won by decision at 165 pounds, Chase won by decision at 174 and LeBrun won by major decision at 184.

The Yellow Jacket wrestlers ae back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 18 when they host cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center at  7:30 p.m.
