#19 BW Wrestlers Finish Third at 30th John Summa Memorial Tournament

BEREA, Ohio – The 19th-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team placed third at the 30th Annual John Summa Memorial Tournament inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.

BW finished third of 11 teams with 136 points and had two individual champions.  Brockport (N.Y.) University was the tournament champion with 156.5 points.

The Yellow Jackets were led by junior 141-pounder Patt McGinnis (Egg Harbor City, N.J. /Cedar Creek) and freshman 165-pounder Anthony Arroyo (Maumee) each won titles

McGinnis won the 141 pound championship.  He received two byes then won by decision and claimed the title with back-to-back medical forfeits. Arroyo (Maumee) captured the title at 165 pounds.  He received a bye, won by pinfall, won by technical fall, won by decision and won the title in sudden victory.

In addition, sophomore Chris Doyle (Akron/Green) was the runner-up at 125 pounds.  Doyle received a first round bye, won by technical fall, won by decision, defeated the #8-nationally ranked wrestler by pinfall lost by decision in the championship match.

Freshman Richie Burke (Ithaca, N.Y.) placed fifth at 157 pounds.  Burke received a bye, won by decision, received another bye, won by technical fall, won by pinfall, won by decision and lost by decision.  He then won by decision for his place finish.

Junior Graham Montague (Independce) placed sixth at 157 pounds.  Montague received a bye won by pinfall, then lost his next match.  He then won his next two matches by decision before suffering another loss.  Montague dropped his fifth place match.

Senior All-American Garret Chase (Erie, Pa. /Cathedral Prep) was the runner-up at 174 pounds.  Chase received a bye, won by decision, won by technical fall, won by decision and lost by decision in the championships.

Sophomore Jimmy Sandlin (Carlisle) placed third at 174 pounds.  Sandlin received a bye, won two matches by decision, won by major decision and suffered a loss.  He then won his third place match in sudden victory.

Senior Ben LeBrun (Strongsville) placed fourth at 184 pounds.  LeBrun received two byes, won by decision and then suffered a loss.  He won by major decision and fell in the third place match.

Sophomore Tyler Maclellan (Medina /Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) was the runner-up at 197 pounds.  Maclellan received a bye in the first round, won by pinfall, won by major decision, won by decision and fell in the championship match

Sophomore Sam Groff (Waynesburg/Sandy Valley) placed third at 197 pounds.  Groff received a bye then lost his first match.  He got two byes, then won three matches by decision and won by decision to claim third.

Sophomore James Ritchie (Carlisle) placed sixth at 197 pounds.  Ritchie received a bye, won by pinfall and then suffered his first loss.  He came back with victories by pinfall and major decision before losing his second match.  Ritchie lost the fifth place match.

Sophomore 285-pounder Andrew Sierawski (Delaware/Hayes) placed third at 285 pounds.  Sierawski received a bye, won by decision and lost by decision; He then won by pinfall, won by decision, won by sudden victory and won by decision.

Senior Joe Belford (Berea/St. Edward) placed fifth at 285 pounds.  Belford received a bye, won by pinfall, won by decision and lost his next two matches.  He then won his fifth place match by medical forfeit.
