BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University three-time Division III All-American wrestler Jesse Gunter (Akron/ Coventry) has been named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Division III Academic All-America At-Large second-team.

The selection of Gunter as a CoSIDA Academic All-Americans now gives Baldwin Wallace 100 all-time selection and is the most of any Ohio Athletic Conference or NCAA Division III school in the state of Ohio and is tied for 12th nationally among Div. III colleges and universities. Gunter advanced to the national ballot after he was selected as first-team CoSIDA Division III Academic All-District 7.

Gunter is arguably the best wrestler in BW history. He was BW's first-ever three-time Division III All-American in wrestling and its first-ever four-time All-OAC selection, including a three-time first-team pick. Gunter earned All-America honors as a sophomore when he placed third at the Div. III national tournament, his second when he placed fourth as a junior and third when he finished fifth as a senior. He ranks second all-time in school history in wins with 122 and with a career record of 122-16 with an .884 winning percentage.

Academically, Gunter completed his education degree requirement in the fall of 2015 and is currently working on a Master's in Accounting degree.  Gunter had a 3.45 grade point average and is a three-time National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American. He also was a member of the Dean's List and the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.

In addition to being a Div. III All-American and a CoSIDA Div. III Academic All-American, Gunter was BW's Kenneth Steingass Award winner, symbolic of the school's Outstanding Male Athlete; its OAC Clyde Lamb Award winner, symbolic of the school's Outstanding Male Student-Athlete; and a three-time NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) Scholar All-American. Earlier this year, Gunter was named as the only Div. III student-athlete in 2015-2016 to receive the Haier Achievement National Collegiate Student-Athlete of the Month (in February) award, and he was honored with a proclamation by the Ohio House of Representatives last July for his academic and athletics achievements.

This season, Gunter compiled a 36-4 overall record with 79 takedowns, 43 escapes, four reversals and 90 total near falls. He had seven pins and six technical falls. He led BW to a school-record for wins in a season with 18 and had an 18-8 overall record. The Yellow Jackets were a perfect 5-0 in OAC competition and claimed their first OAC title since 1973. BW also placed an all-time best second at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Tournament. During his four seasons at BW, Gunter was a member of the winninest class ever that produced a 47-20 dual match record and was nationally ranked each season.
