BEREA, Ohio -- Baldwin Wallace University senior two-time Division III All-American 133-pound wrestler Jesse Gunter (Akron/ Coventry) is this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week. It is the third time he has earned the OAC Wrestler of the Week award during his outstanding four-year career.
Gunter, who is ranked second in Division III at 133 pounds in the January 4 NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) national poll, had a perfect 4-0 record, improved to 13-0 this season and won his 99th career match (99-12 overall) as BW had a 2-2 record at the 2015 Desert Duals in Las Vegan, Nevada at the Flamingo Resort on December 21.
Gunter opened with a 10-9 win against No.2-ranked Connor Campo of No.1-ranked Wartburg (Iowa). He also had a pin (1:43), a major decision (12-1) and beat Steve Rosenburg of Dubuque (Iowa), 10-7. His pin against Saint John's (Minn.) University's Ben Kollaja was his 100th career win.
Gunter earned Division III All-America honors when he placed third as a sophomore and fourth a season ago at the national tournament. He also carries a 3.3 grade point average and is a two-time NWCA Scholar All-American.
